GettingStarted

If you are not logged in as a user, the top of the home page will look something like this:
Image

To add pages or edit pages, you first need to register. In the upper right hand corner of the page is a Login box that looks like:

Click the word "Register" (highlighted in yellow for emphasis) and you will see a window that looks like:

Pick a userid and password for yourself. Please pick a userid that includes at least a portion of your name or a nickname that other family members will recognize. You must enter a valid email address as part of the registration. When you click Image , wait a few minutes and check your email. You should have an email with a link to click or copy into your web browser. You have to use this link the first time you log in. After that, you can just use your userid and password on the web page.

When you have logged in, more tabs appear at the top of the page:

Click on the edit tab at the top of the page to open the page for editing. The screen should like something like this:

Type new text in the main "Edit" window as indicated.

If you want to comment on the changes you are making, add them in the "Comment" window. This window is limited to just a brief statement, which will only appear in the "History" list.

To imbed a picture file on a page, click the Image button near the bottom of the edit screen. (Note: If you are using a Mac, choose the file with the Image button.) Select the file to upload and then click the Image button. A link to the picture in the form
{img src=img/wiki_up//filename.JPG} will be created at the bottom of the edit screen. You can cut and paste the link to put it whereever on the page you would like.

At any time during the edit process, you can click Image to see what the finished page will look like. You may have to scroll back to the top of the page to see the preview and then scroll back down to the edit window to make any desired corrections or additions. Be sure to click Image when you are through.

Note that there are "Quicklinks":

at the top of the edit page that will insert a prototype command for many common functions. For instance, clicking Image inserts ((text)), indicating a link to a Wiki page. Just change the word "text" to whatever you want the page to be named and voila, you've inserted the name of an existing or new Wiki page. You can hold your cursor over the Quicklink image to get a description of what that link does.

If you would like to practice in a spot where you can feel comfortable that you won't hurt anything, first click the double colons next to "Wiki" in the Menu at the upper left corner of the screen:

The menu will expand to include several additional options:

Click on the SandBox to go to a page where you can try your hand at editing. Nothing on that page is saved, so you have to use Image to see the results of your work. Remember that nothing you do in the SandBox is permanent.

Your contribution can be as simple as just typing plain text, or you can make it as fancy in formatting with colors, pictures, tables, etc. as you want it to be. Either way, we welcome and encourage your contributions.

Have fun and help us to make Brims Fairy Tales a fun place for family and friends to share!
